Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming

A musical by Alan Bailey
Written by Connie Ray
Musical arrangements by Mike Craver
It’s October, 1945. The war is over and America’s years of prosperity are just beginning. But there’s another kind of rite of passage at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where the Reverend Mervin Oglethorpe is giving his last service. Having been called to preach in Texas, he’s already bought a 10-gallon hat and is preparing to ride into the sunset with his wife June, who is eight months pregnant. Tomorrow morning,
June’s brother Dennis will take over as the congregation’s pastor. Join the Sanders Family as they send Mervin and June off in style, with hilarious and touching stories and 25 fabulous Bluegrass Gospel
favorites.

Plaza Suite

Plaza Suite, a comedy by Neil Simon, is a three-act play that details the misadventures of three very different couples as they face crucial moments in their respective lives – all in the same hotel room in the famous Plaza Hotel.

Act 1, a suburban couple takes the suite while their house is being painted.  It turns out to be the same suite they honeymooned in years ago – but was yesterday their anniversary, or today??

Act 2 features a Hollywood producer who, after three marriages, is looking for fresh fields. He calls a high school sweetheart who, over the years, has idolized him from afar, but who is now more than he bargained for!

Act 3 finds a mother and father fighting about the best way to get their soon-to-be-married daughter out of the locked bathroom and down to the ballroom where guests await the nuptials.

Love Letters

Love Letters by A. R. Gurney is a two-character love story that stages the reading of cards and letters written by a man, Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, and a woman, Melissa Gardner, to each other over a lifetime.

They had gone their separate ways by college, but continued to communicate via the written letter as they support each other during all their coming of age experiences, including their family and societal trials and tribulations.  Andy is fond of writing about his scholastic and professional accomplishments, his marriage and children, etc., as he continues to rise to his eventual U.S. Senate position.  On
the other hand, Melissa tries to keep their exchanges more grounded, sensual and intimate, as she is a free-spirited artist.  She even recommends that they resort to phone calls instead of letters, but Andy remains adamant that the true essence of communication is best crafted by the written word.
Towards the end, she and Andy become involved in
a secret affair, but he feels something isn't right with it and cuts it short.  However, Andy's last letter, written to her mother after Melissa's untimely death, makes it clear how close they really were over the years, as he expresses many of his deepest sentiments for her and their life long relationship.
