1940's Radio Hour

Musical / Comedy by
Walton Jones

The date is December 21, 1942, and The Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade is on the air, live from the Hotel Astor. This Broadway hit captures the spirit of that bygone era when the world was at war and television was something from science fiction.

The show takes place during a live broadcast of W.O.V., a local 5,000 watt New York City radio station. It centers around a group of performers and their attempts to make it to the big time, as seen through the eyes of a 1940's radio station studio audience. This nostalgic trip down memory lane included such songs as "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", "Ain't She Sweet", and "Blue Moon."

The 1940's Radio Hour is a musical comedy which features the favorite jazz hits of the era intertwined with a live radio production in the time of war. Complete with a pianist, flashing applause signs, sound effects booth and authentic commercials. The audience is guaranteed to leave with a smile on their face and their toes tappin’.
